Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that encourage you to release your stresses and tensions throughout your body.

It is a gentle and extremely effective approach and may be used in a wide range of conditions, from birth on, regardless of your age.  Pregnant mothers and babies respond particularly well to this method of treatment.

Cranial osteopathy is based on picking up a very subtle rhythmic change, that is present in all your body tissues called Involuntary Motion or the Cranial Rhythm.  The movement is of very small amplitude, so a very fine sense of touch is needed to feel it. This rhythm was first described in the early 1900’s by Dr. William G. Sutherland and its existence was confirmed in a series of laboratory tests in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Tension which can build up in your body disrupts the cranial rhythm. Your rhythm reflects the stresses and strains your body is under at present, and the tensions it may be carrying as a result of its past history. It also gives an insight into your overall condition, for example if you are healthy, or stressed and tired.

When you experience physical or emotional stresses, your body tissues tend to tighten. Your body may have been able to adapt to these effects at the time, but a lasting strain often remains. Any tensions which remain held in your body can restrict its movement. Gradually your body may find it more and more difficult to cope with accumulated stresses and symptoms may develop.

Treatment is calming, comfortable and enjoyed with great results. After treatment, as well as feeling better, you will look forward to the overall sense of wellbeing the treatment brings; you will understand your own body better, preventing further degenerative changes to occur.
