The knee and the hip joints support and mobilise the whole body.

Common complaints are pain in the hip and knee due to muscle strain, fracture, pregnancy, osteoarthritis, spinal referred pain, ligamentous strain or rupture, meniscal problems and bursitis.

You can help to prevent hip and knee pain by maintaining an apropriate body weight and doing regular exercise which helps keep the muscles strong, maximising good control of movement and keeping the joints helathy and flexible. It is also very important to warm up before exercise or strenuous activity to prevent damage. Gentle stretching after exercise can reduce problems too.
